...

What do two people do when they want to be together? My insignificant intelligence tells me that they would do all they can to be with each other.
That, to my under-developed logic, is what would be the simplest approach to the issue. They could weigh the pros and cons of the steps they take to be together and then decide. That’s as much complicated as this matter should get… in an ideal world.
But… this world is not ideal… here things do not follow a straight path… here the people involved deprive themselves of the laughter and smiles that should fill their life with and instead opt for pain and pining. Why would they want to do this? Because, the principles of their decisions are more important than what the heart wants. Because, to them a fear of something that might go wrong in the future… a distant possibility if ever there is one, is what is the biggest deciding factor!
What does one choose when one’s choice could end the happiness of the other person?
What does one opt for… a life time of yearning, of regret for not having tried or a hard decision even if it is a risk?
Or maybe one should just walk away… and force the heart to believe that what one had been protecting so fiercely was a mere mirage… not even a sand castle. It was just an illusion that the heart had set its heart on!
Walk away… but try and be careful and avoid stepping on those billion fragments of a shattered heart… a stupid heart that believed the magic it beheld.

  1. "Intrinsic to the nature of love is its – always unfulfilled – promise of eternity. One’s life here is here on earth now ... what use is a spurious Eternal Bliss in some conjectured After-Life? Love has produced wars, murders, rapes and aggression since time immemorial ... it staggers me that it still retains its credibility. To kill for ‘Love of Country’ or ‘Love of God’ is surely proof enough for any discerning person. Then there are those ‘Crimes of Passion’ that are brought about by love’s constant companions: possessiveness, jealousy and envy. If these examples are considered too extreme then what about the heartache, the longing, the pining and the yearning that all peoples report as accompanying love’s bliss? This leads to the search for True Love which, supposedly, does not induce these unpleasant characteristics so common to everybody’s experience of love. True Love is simply a fiction ... it is impossible to manifest it here on earth, hence the notion of an After-Life to encompass it. To repeat: Love never delivers on its implied promise. It never has done nor ever will. Its days are numbered, as more and more people are beginning to notice that love itself – not the sensate human body – is failing to live up to its ill-deserved curative reputation again and again.

Actual intimacy – no separation (no separative self whatsoever) cannot wax and wane/ come and go/ switch on and off here in this actual world (the world of the senses). Upon an actual freedom from the human condition an actual intimacy is the norm with every body and every thing regardless of whatever their or its current situation and circumstances might be.

(Some peoples have looked at me blankly upon being informed there is an actual intimacy with, say, an ashtray or a polystyrene cup or a pebble or whatever)."

  2. Both diagnoses provide an interesting reading, though they are just what they are, personal opinions. A third and a fourth and a fifth could, each of them, delve deeper or touch on other interpretations, whatsoever. Meanwhile, every human acts upon his/her own instinct, which may or may not be detrimental to the preservation of the social fabric as it is....

  3. The second dialogue by Richard is an example of a person who is free of all malice and sorrow such that it does not even arise , so there is no need to control..many people have followed suit and are becoming free from the shitty 'human condition'..but ofcourse it depends on person to person - whether one wants to be free from suffering forever or not..I , for one am seriously interested in this but at the same time wonder why anyone wouldnt like to end their suffering permanently so that it can never arise..

  4. Hi Shashank... the arguments are quite interesting... but the question remains, aren't we just complicating our lives? Simple solutions are available, yet there is some reason or the other... often imagined or assumed that prevents us from taking that simple path.

I would prefer to take the simple approach... and then work on it to perfect it... or maybe just let it take its own course.
But, I do not want to put myself through an emotional wringer and all the pain associated with it. Unfortunately, when two people are involved in a relationship... and both of them love each other with the same passion, the same amount of sincerity... a decision cannot be taken without affecting the other. Here is where the dilemma arises... how much leeway does love give you to be selfish and take risks.

  5. Surya..the problem with any solution that involves 2 people is that it involves another person with a whole bunch of possibly different set of feelings, beliefs , notions , views etc..so what is simple for one might not be for the other..so whose view is right ?

The solution is to have no views whatsoever , such that the 'who' goes and 'what' remains - a flesh and blood body living in this actual world of sensorial delight, which is pristine and perfect already..a glimpse of this can be seen in a pure conscious experience - I speak from personal experience ! and life couldnt be simpler/better than this
